Context
In Matthew 4, Jesus begins His public ministry, calls His first disciples, and goes about teaching and healing people.
And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
––Matthew 4:19 KJV
How to read it
Jesus was talking to these fishermen dudes and basically told them if they follow Him, they’d have a whole new kind of job — instead of catching fish, they’d be helping to bring people closer to God. Jesus was saying that if you roll with Him, you’re going to help change lives, which is a pretty incredible opportunity. It’s like getting invited to the ultimate adventure, where your actions have a real impact on the world!
Let’s pray
Heavenly Father,
thank You for inviting us to follow You and be part of something greater. Help us to understand the purpose You have for our lives. Let us be open to Your calling and ready to bring others to Your love and truth. Give us the courage to leave our old ways behind and to trust Your plan for us.
