Context

In John 12, Jesus is in Jerusalem and is addressing the people about His purpose and the importance of believing in Him as the Son of God.

I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
 ––John 12:46 KJV

How to read it

Jesus is dropping a major life hack for all of us. He’s saying, ‘Hey, I’m here to be the ultimate light in your life, so you don’t need to feel stuck in the darkness anymore. All you’ve got to do is believe in me, and that darkness? It won’t have any hold over you.’ Imagine being in super bright sunshine after being stuck in a dark room forever. That’s what believing in Jesus is like; it’s a total game-changer.

Let’s pray

Heavenly Father,
thank You for sending Jesus as the light in our lives. Help us to believe in Him wholeheartedly and to walk away from the darkness that holds us back. May Your light shine brightly in us so that we can be a reflection of Your love to others. Help us remember at all times, that with Jesus, we have the promise of never being lost in the dark. Give us the courage and faith to remain in this light every day.
