Context
1 Timothy 4 encourages believers to stay focused on their faith, avoid false teachings, and pursue godliness, even in the face of challenges.
For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
––1 Timothy 4:8 KJV
How to read it
Basically, Paul is saying that while working out and keeping fit is cool, there’s something even better out there — being godly. Living like Jesus is not just a cheat code for a good life now but also for eternal life later. It’s like investing in the ultimate long-term rewards that last way beyond any physical gains we could ever achieve.
Let’s pray
Heavenly Father,
thank You for the wisdom You have given us through Your Word. Thank You for the reminder that while physical discipline has value, pursuing godliness brings eternal gain. Help me to train my heart in righteousness and to seek You daily. May my life reflect the promise of Your truth, both now and forevermore. Strengthen me to walk in holiness, keeping my eyes fixed on the eternal reward found in Christ Jesus.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
